How to get to Ohrid

From April until October there are plenty direct flights to Ohrid. Just use online information and you'll be able to purchase any kind of tickets. However there are a lots of flights to Skopje (the capital of Macedonia) through the whole year.


Once arrived at the Ohrid airport, you´ll be able to get a taxi to your final destination in the city of Ohrid. The costs are between 8 /10€. If you have booked the whole package, flight + hotel, transfer to the hotel shall be probably arranged by your tour operator. Unfortunately there are no busses driving from the city to the airport. It takes about 20 minutes to get from the center of Ohrid to the airport.

From the Skopje airport you can choose rent-a-car, taxi or taking a bus.

Rent-a-car costs about 20-35€ per day, depends on the size of the car. However a deposit of 500 € shall be required from your credit card, which will be refunded afterwards. There are a lots of Rent-a-Car agencies, situated in the Skopje airport.

​Taxi from Skopje to Ohrid will cost you about 100€ and there are lots of official taxi vehicles waiting outside the airport.

It's about 3 hours drive to Ohrid, but I'm sure you'll enjoy the nature around you.

If you decide to take a bus, first you need to take an airport bus to the Skopje Bus Station for the cost of about 5€. There are buses to Ohrid almost every hour. A ticket will cost you about 10€. For further information go to Balkan Viator.

You can go shopping in Ohrid. You will come across wonderful beautiful little shops. These shops make Ohrid so attractive and unique. There are also plenty of supermarkets. Among other things,you can buy here fresh vegetables, fruit, meat and bread.

There are enough ATM's and almost every store offers the possibility to pay with a card (Maestro, Master Card or Visa).

The currency of Macedonia is the Macedonian denar (MKD). Banknotes are available in denominations of 10, 20, 50, 100, 500, 1000 and 5000 MKD. 1€ = 61 den.

Withdrawing money is usually cheaper with a bank card than with a credit card.

Banks and exchange offices exchange money. Hotels usually change at a less favorable rate than a bank.

Exchange or spend North Macedonian money before departure. Elsewhere, the North Macedonian denar is difficult or impossible to change.
