Holidays

Macedonia has a number of holidays and festivals. On these days shops and offices may be closed, which can make travel difficult. See the overview of the most important holidays below.

New Year - 1 January
Orthodox Christmas - 7-8 January
Labour Day - 1 May
St. Cyrillus and Methodius - 24 May
Day of the Republic - 2 August
Independence Day - 8 September
Day of the uprising - October 11th
Day of the Revolution - 23 October
St. Clemens of Ohrid - December 8th

Easter, Good Friday, Pentecost, Ramadan and the sugar festival are also celebrated in Macedonia. The dates vary every year and (sometimes) coincide with the celebrations in the Netherlands.
